An idea about wave form editing....
on: January 2, 2011, 04:46

Hi there

I just had an idea about how to implement graphic wave editing(setting loop start and end points)

I thought mabey instead of pressing the cue pads to set the start point of a loop, mabey you could press the a cue pad and it brings up a graphic wave where you can zoom in and out and set loop start and end points, then press the next cue pad and do the same, etc. and have it play only between the 2 loop points. once set mabey the cue pad could turn into a regular pad(same as the sampler) to make it easier to "play live" As it stands now it is very difficult to hit the cue pads at the right point where you want it to start.. I know it would take some reworking because you have the cross fader and start and stop buttons etc. Or mabey instead of changing the cue pads to regular pads you could mabey just copy the part inbetween the 2 loop points and paste it to a sample player?. something along those lines anyway.

Also i thought being able to assign the cross fader to different functions would be very usefull, like you could choose to have it control pitch in semitones for example +/- 12. and mabey the BMP of the loop.

Oh and one more thing a global start/stop button would be very welcome too.

Anyway let me know what you think, and if you think might be feasable.

Cheers

Hi,

the function you described is more suitable for the Sampler rather than the File Player. I'm considering to implement something like that, but trying to keep Ricepad live oriented (i.e. minimizing the editing aspect and the complexity of the interface).

Pitch control will come after time stretching, on which I've already started working.

By now you have a global start button and stop button in the Tempo module. However I agree that a handier button would be nice.

Yes i agree keep it nice and simple and live oriented. Also agree that mabey the sampler would be the better choice for wave editing. A little button like the one on the file player to set the cue points (the one that turns them red for setting the start point of a loop). But instead when you press it then press a pad it brings up the wave for that pad, set the loop start/end and done, quick and simple, and back to playing. I suppose you would have to find a place to put and edit button on the sampler. Anyway hope you can fit this into the next update or the one after that. Its a great app and i enjoy using it, keep up the good work.
