Quick app switching/background playback?
on: July 1, 2011, 00:56

Hi there! First off, just wanna say: extremely awesome app here.

My main gripe about the app is that it doesn't seem to properly support quick app switching, which makes it feel surprisingly old (given that it's missing a feature that debuted about a year ago). Could you add that to the next update? I would be so happy!

The only other request I have is background playback of audio so you can do things in other apps too (like, for example, ThumbJam can continue playback of loops while you do stuff in other apps, and then you can come back and do more in ThumbJam, and it works together to help you use everything together for making music). That would be SUPER GREAT. : )

Once again, I absolutely love your app! Thanks again for a great piece of software!

Hi, and thanks for your words!

The only problem I can think about concerning app switching (or more in general quitting and reopening Ricepad) is related to the loops played in the Sampler. That is, if you're playing a loop in hold mode and quit the app, it will stop and won't start again to play when you reopen the app, unless it's sequenced. Were you referring to this issue?

I'll definetely add an option to play in the background.

Greets.

I don't think I was referring specifically to that issue, to be fair. Mostly I just get annoyed that even if I just press the home button and go away for a second, Ricepad has to start up again instead of resuming like most apps do now. But Ricepad is basically great enough that I can ignore that most of the time, too. : )

Oh ok. Yes, it does restart, but since it's mostly used for loops I assumed that people wouldn't mind to find the loop playing from the beginning. (Do you find it annoying because you use long audio files in the File Player?)

I chose this behaviour in order to spare the device's memory, since the session is just closed when you quit the app. In the next release, with the setting for running in the background, this won't happen anymore.
